College Corps Camp Flags

Role: Lead Designer, Art Director, Consultant

Overview

This project was contracted through the University of California San Diego's College Corps Organization. I was tasked with creating flag designs for a team based activity. There were 18 teams total and each team needed a color association and animal mascot. Software's Framer and Procreate were used to complete and compile this project before delivery.

Approach

They wanted the flags to be more than just names on a paper so I went for a triangular, retro camp flag feel. Eliciting the fun and colorful nature of the Cartoon Network show 'Total Drama Island' was a direction I was given by my client. So I mood boarded and drafted a first pass outline to present to my client and move foward.

After unifying the flag layout and text choice, picking the animals that would serve as the mascots was next. The University of California San Diego is a prideful campus with environmental awareness so taking inspiration from the wildlife of the area was a clear choice and where the 18 team names were derived.

Then the iterative process of mascot drawing began. Myself and partner in this project Siul Maduena sketched and revised the animal mascots, receiving and implementing feedback so that the vision of those at College Corps was met. As these were designed for print in 2 differing printing techniques (image transfer and standard cardstock) we made sure to provided the necessary files needed and were available for any further changes or troubleshooting required by the printing team.
